Delia Sosa McDermott serves as Councilwoman for Borough of Keyport since January 2019. Currently, she is a board member of the Keyport Bayfront Business Cooperative, liaison of the Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP), and Environmental Commission, secondary liaison for Fire/First Aid/OEM, and has served as a member of Police, Library Construction committee, Municipal Alliance Committee, Library Board, Harbor Commission, and liaison for Public Works, Construction, Zoning, Property Maintenance, Recreation, and the Senior Center.
Originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, Delia is bilingual and has five New Jersey-born siblings of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent. She credits her commitment to public service to her family, friends, mentors, teachers and peer role models, who always encouraged her passion for community, education, environment, advocacy, diversity and respect for others.
Earning academic scholarships, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology with Chemistry minor from William Paterson University. Most notably, she received a national award from Latino Vote USA for non-partisan voter registration campaigns in NJ/NY and earned a renowned internship with Dr. Antonia Novello, the first female and Hispanic Surgeon General of the United States under President George Bush by working in the Public Health Service Commission office of Washington D.C.
During her time serving in Keyport, Delia has made it her mission to collaborate and partner with others to bring the best possible experience to the Borough. Such programs include KBBC Ribbon Cuttings, the Keyport 5K, Keyport Snapper Contest, Recreational events like Juneteenth, Keyport events like Salsa Nights on the Bay, Wellness Walk, Keyport Movie Nights and the Keyport Farmers Market. Delia has also worked to bring programs targeted specifically at families to the Borough, such as Cornhole, Horseshoe, Kayak and SUP to the Waterfront, and providing new or revamped outdoor areas such as the Skate Park, ballfield, play structure, and exercise stations to Main Street Park.
Currently, Delia works as a Corporate Training Operations Manager for Lyra Health a mental health care company with experience working in mid-sized to large companies such as Rackspace, Morgan Stanley & Co., and Olympus Medical Services. In these roles, she has delivered a high level of skills and expertise with people management, leadership and implementation in learning solutions and operational standards among cross-functional businesses. Whether in the workplace or in the Council Chambers, her actions exemplify influence with exceptional professionalism targeted to increase positive outcomes and educate within desired outcomes.
Delia enjoys visiting our local Monmouth County attractions such as the Jersey Shore and traveling to new places across the globe with her husband, William.
