Councilmember Joseph Merla
A lifelong Keyport resident, Joseph still lives in the home where he was born in 1963. A 1982 graduate of Keyport High School, he has dedicated his life to serving and investing in the community he loves. Joseph has been a local business owner since 1990 and an elected member of the Keyport Bayfront Business Co-operative for over 20 years. He currently serves as a Class III member of the Land Use Board and is an active member of the Keyport Harbor Commission.

Joseph’s community involvement also includes past membership in the Keyport-Matawan Elks and current membership in the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy – Keyport Chapter. Known for his strong work ethic and commitment to getting things done, Joseph has spent his life giving back to Keyport, investing nearly every penny he has earned back into the town. Guided by the values he was raised on, he believes in giving as much as possible and never forgetting where you come from.
