Broadway Avenue Bridge eastbound over Route 35
to reopen tonight in Keyport, Monmouth County

Alternating traffic will be maintained on the bridge overnight

(Trenton) – The Broadway Avenue/CR 516 Bridge eastbound over Route 35, which was closed in November 2022, is scheduled to reopen tonight as a bridge deck replacement project advances in Keyport, Monmouth County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 19, until 4 a.m. Saturday, May 20, NJDOT’s contractor, Konkus Corp., is scheduled to reposition construction barrier on the Broadway Avenue/CR 516 Bridge over Route 35 to restripe the roadway and to implement a traffic shift. Alternating traffic will be maintained overnight.

By 4 a.m. Saturday, the eastbound side of the bridge will be reopened. In addition, the single lane carrying traffic westbound will be shifted to the left onto the newly constructed eastbound side of the bridge. One lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions on the bridge, during this stage of construction. The new traffic pattern is necessary for the demolition and reconstruction of the westbound bridge deck and is expected to be in place for approximately five months.

The $5 million project will replace the deck on the Broadway Avenue/CR 516 Bridge over Route 35, which is in poor condition. The bridge was built in 1965 and carries two 12-foot lanes of traffic in each direction with a one-foot shoulder and a six-foot sidewalk on each side between Maple Place and 4th Street. In addition to replacing the bridge deck, guiderail will be upgraded to current standards and minor repairs will be made on the substructure. The work will be done in stages to minimize the impact to traffic. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2023.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website https://link.edgepilot.com/s/6acda259/OiVEMFEsnkqbfQ4FHJH8dw?u=http://www.511nj.org/ for construction updates and real-time travel information.
