KEYPORT CLEAN COMMUNITIES
From: Tom Gallo, Clean Communities Coordinator
Date: July 2, 2019
Beach Clean Up courtesy of NJ Dept of Corrections and NJDEP Clean Shores Program
When: Wednesday, July 3, 2019 8 a.m. until approx. 2 p.m. One day only.
Where: Veterans Park Beach
Details:
Public awareness: Veterans Park and Benjamin Terry Park will not be closed! The NJ Department of Corrections will be providing a guard and the labor to remove heavy floatable debris from our beach. There will be heavy equipment movement however there is enough distance to safeguard those wishing to use the park. There will be equipment noise for those seeking quiet relaxation; suggest using an alternate park.
Veterans Park Parking lot will serve as the logistical point of the operation.
A 20 cubic yard dumpster will placed on North West First Street. The grass area will not be compromised by any equipment or vehicles.
Passage for vehicles will be maintained. Fire trucks and larger trucks may not be able to pass. I will alert KFD and KFAS once the dumpster is staged.
NJDOC bus with seven inmates and one Officer will park nearby.
Keyport’s DPW will provide one operator and one backhoe from approximately 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
High tide is at 8:54 a.m. Time, tide and space in the dumpster permitting, heavy debris from Cedar Street Beach will be collected.
Thank you to the “Clean Shores Program,” operated by the NJDEP Division of Water Monitoring and Standards, for providing labor and tools needed to cut up and remove debris. Also thanks to the NJDOC for the work force and oversight. Monmouth County’s DPW/Engineering Department and the Monmouth County Reclamation Center arranged for the dumpster and disposal services. The Keyport Clean Communities Program, funded by the NJ Clean Communities Council, coordinated the event.
Keyport’s three, free beaches are small however they are well used and enjoyed by all.
