On Saturday, May 14, 2011, NY/NJ Baykeeper, in conjunction with the Monmouth County Clean Communities program, the Borough of Keyport and the Bayshore Regional Watershed Council, will be doing a cleanup of Chingarora Creek, on the border of Keyport & Union Beach, from 10am to 1pm. Meeting place will be at the corner of Broadway Avenue, Front Street, and Stone Road, near where the Henry Hudson Trail goes over the creek. For more information, and to RSVP, please contact Amy at Testa@nynjbaykeeper.org or 732-888-9870, ext. 6

Chingarora Creek has been recognized for many years by birders, duckhunters, crabbers, and shellfishermen as being important wildlife habitat in Raritan Bay. With an extensive salt marsh, sandy beach, and fringe woodland, the area is a valuable place for Glossy Ibises, Great Egrets, and Greater Scaup to feed, Horseshoe Crabs to lay eggs, and Least Terns, American Oystercatchers, and Northern Harriers to nest.

Please come out to help clean up this precious urban wetland area for all species to enjoy!
